Photos of African Americans during the Civil War and after Emancipation

Perfect timing for our discussion of Frances E.W. Harper's Iola Leroy (1892)! Harper's sentimental/uplift novel represents the role of enslaved African Americans during the Civil War and immediately after Emancipation. And here's a new book of rare photographs of African Americans, taken during the Civil War and after Emancipation. These photographs have never been collected before.
